BlueBeacon Gateway

BlueBeacon Gateway support information is in progress. Please contact BlueUp team in order to request additional information.

When can I use BlueBeacon Gateway?

BlueBeacon Gateway can used for different applications, such as:
- continuous 24/7 remote control systems for fixed-beacons installations;
- distributed monitoring systems of environmental parameters, with BlueBeacon Sensor (with temperature, humidity and pressure sensors);
- "zone-based" localization of beacon moving in a certain area, inside a building or a plant;
- access-control gates, with BlueBeacon Tag used as BLE identification device of personnel.
The distinguishing feature of BlueBeacon Gateway, compared to similar competing solutions, is the use of an open software and hardware platform. BlueBeacon Gateway is provided with APIs and basic pre-configured functionalities, but can be customized directly by customers (system integrators, developers, ...).

What are BlueBeacon Gateway functionalities?

BlueBeacon Gateway offers the following services:
1. Connect to BlueBeacon Cloud back-end, using the account credentials (username and password) provided by BlueUp, for sending and logging data (ID, sensor data, battery status, ...) received by registered beacons on your BlueBeacon Cloud account;
2. a set of services for accessing beacon data received:
- a set of REST APIs to scan and filter the beacons received from the BlueBeacon Gateway
- a STREAM mode that uses Socket.io (WebSocket) to get the beacons data in real-time
- a STREAM mode that uses raw TCP socket to get the beacons data in real-time
3. Some sample applications based on point 2 services: a local Web server and one example application that provides a real-time graph of received beacon RSSI value (maximum 5 beacons plotted).

By connecting to the gateway through the web browser, using the IP address provided by DHCP, the following web page is displayed, listing a menu with 3 options at the bottom:
- BlueBeacon Cloud Login, allows you to register your gateway on your Cloud account;
- Application examples: provides two examples of application of embedded APIs: a local Web Server and a tool that provides real-time graphical representation of the RSSI received by beacons (limited to maximum 5 beacons);
- Documentation: documentation for using integrated APIs in the device.

Connect BlueBeacon Gateway to BlueBeacon Cloud

In order to connect your BlueBeacon Gateway to your BlueBeacon Cloud account, it is required to select BlueBeacon Cloud Login in the gateway main page. You will be asked to insert Cloud credentials.

In case the registration procedure succeeds, a message will be shown confirming that the gateway has been registered on your account.

In this way, the gateway will be shown on your BlueBeacon Cloud panel. It will sends periodically (with interval configurable by Cloud) the data received by beacons registered on your account.

Using BlueBeacon Gateway APIs

If you want to integrate BlueBeacon Gateway into your own back-end system, you can use the provided services for accessing beacon data received by the gateway:
- a set of REST APIs to scan and filter the beacons received from the BlueBeacon Gateway
- a STREAM mode that uses Socket.io (WebSocket) to get the beacons data in real-time
- a STREAM mode that uses raw TCP socket to get the beacons data in real-time
Detailed information on these services can be found here.
